MINIX NEO P2 4-Port GaN Charger – Review

With great power comes... a great power-management product!

  • Manufacturer: MINIX Technology Limited
  • Price: £54.90, €59.90, $59.90
  • Compatibility: UK, US and EU Plugs available; USB-A and USB-C

Hong Kong tech manufacturer MINIX has released a number of fantastic peripherals over the past couple of years. Peripherals with built-in SSDs, dual-monitor support, and offering many extended ports, now though, for something a little different, while still retaining the high standards we’ve come to expect from the company.

The MINIX NEO P2 is a 100w, 4-port GaN (Gallium Nitride) charger. This 85.3 x 60.8 x 28.9mm power brick comes with three international plug specifications: UK, US and EU, and weighs in at a surprisingly light 208g. In the box there’s the P2 itself, a UK and an EU pair of clip-on plugs, and a couple of felt drawstring bags to help carry the power brick around in.

The plugs make for a nice touch, in that the UK and EU are simply slide and clip attachments, but the US plug specification extends out from the power connection – keeping the P2 compact and transportable. On the rear – opposite the power connection – you’ll find a pair of USB-C ports and a pair of USB-A ports, along with an LED power indicator.

The USB-C ports offer 100w power delivery 3.0 with 5~15V/3A and 20v/5A, while the USB-A ports offer 5, 10, 12 and 18w with 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A and support Quick Charge 3.0. The P2 will automatically detect and adjust the power output of each port depending on the device that’s connected to it, so whatever you device to plug in to the P2, you rest assured that it’ll charge quickly and safely. Incidentally, you can use all four ports simultaneously, enabling you to charge phones, tablets, laptops and so on while on the move or at home.

The P2 also has some clever technology inside, with high-density heatsinks and a low operating temperature. It’s made from fire-resistant polycarbonate, and protects the devices connected from overvoltage, input and output overcurrent, short circuit, and overheating.

The MINIX P2 is priced at £54.90, €59.90 or $59.90, and is one of the best compact, travel-friendly and feature-rich chargers we’ve ever used. With excellent value for money, and superb design, we can’t fault this amazing little power brick.
